Thunder loses season finale in overtime

The Thunder completed its last-place hockey season on Saturday night with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Tulsa Oilers before 10,480 fans in Tulsa.

Wichita ended the season with the ECHL’s worst point total (48) and won 18 of 72 games (18-41-7-6). The Thunder was 10 points from escaping the cellar of the 28-team league.

Ben Murphy scored for Tulsa just more than two minutes into the first period, but Wichita tied it on Christian Isackson’s 14th goal 14 minutes later.

After two scoreless periods, Tulsa forward Phil Brewer took a feed from Brian Nugent and scored past Thunder goalie David Shantz, who made 28 saves.
