Shantz helps Thunder end losing streak
Goalkeeper David Shantz turned away 22 of 23 shots in leading the Thunder to a 2-1 ECHL victory at Indy on Saturday night, ending the team’s six-game losing streak.
Wichita defenseman Martin Nemcik scored in the first period to tie the game at 1, then forward Logan Nelson scored at 2:41 of the second period for the eventual game-winner. Kenton Miller had assists on both goals.
Shantz gave up a first-period goal to Indy’s Anders Franzon, but kept the Fuel (14-18-2-0) out of the net for the next two periods to improve the Thunder’s record to 8-20-1-3. Indy was 0 for 5 on the power play.
Wichita, which was 0 for 9 on the power play, plays at Evansville on Sunday before playing host to Tulsa on Friday at Intrust Bank Arena.
