Mavericks defeat Thunder again

The Missouri Mavericks scored two power-play goals in the second period and beat the Thunder 2-1 on Saturday night in Independence Mo., the second win over the Thunder in two nights.

Wichita took a 1-0 lead on Dalton Reum’s first goal of the season at 15:08 of the first period with assists from Todd Hosmer and Michael Neal.

Missouri tied the score while the Thunder’s Joey Sides was serving a double minor for high-sticking. Andrew Courtney scored the goal. Trevor Ludwig gave Missouri the lead, getting a goal with 12 seconds left on a slashing penalty against Anthony Deluca.

The Mavericks had seven power-play opportunities in the game; the Thunder was 0 for 4 with a man-advantage.

Missouri outshot Wichita 27-18, and held the Thunder to seven shots on goal in the first 40 minutes.

The Thunder plays at Quad City on Sunday.
