Oilers beat Thunder in shootout

The Tulsa Oilers beat the Thunder 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday in Tulsa.

Wichita scored two goals with its first three shots in the game’s first 8 minutes, 33 seconds. Jared Walker and Nikita Kashirsky scored 41 seconds apart to stake the Thunder to a 2-0 lead.

After the second goal Tulsa replaced goalie Mike Zacharias with Kevin Carr, and Carr didn’t allow a goal the rest of the night, stopping all 22 shots he faced.

Tulsa made it 2-1 in the second period on a goal by Tommy Mele, and tied it 2-2 when Jake Obermeyer scored at 6:44 of the third period.

Stephen Schultz was the only of Wichita’s five shooters to score in the shootout, but goalie Tyler Bunz stopped four of Tulsa’s five shots to keep the match even. After two more Thunder players failed to score, The Oilers’ Scott Macaulay converted to end the game.
