Thunder’s hot start puts away Beast
Todd Hosmer scored a goal and assisted on another in the third period to help the Thunder beat the Brampton Beast 5-2 on Monday night in Brampton, Ontario.
The Thunder (28-21-2-6) got a possible five out of six points in the three weekend games in Canada.
RG Flath scored 10 minutes into the first period, then Justin Bernhardt scored with 2:40 to play in the period for a 2-0 Thunder lead.
Brampton (19-34-3-0) pulled within a goal almost four minutes into the second period, but Kurtis Bartliff scored about six minutes later to push the lead back to two goals.
Nikita Kashirsky put the game out of reach with a power-play goal almost three minutes into the third period. Brampton got a goal back with 9:13 to play, but an empty-netter by Hosmer rounded out the scoring.
Grant Rollheiser got the victory in net for Wichita, stopping 14 shots out of Brampton’s 16. The Beast had only eight shots in the first two periods.
Wichita is back on the road this weekend with games at Tulsa on Friday and Quad City on Saturday, followed by midweek games next week at Allen before returning home for a March 20 home game against the Americans.
