Wild play for seeding with playoffs in hand
Already armed with an Indoor Football League berth, the Wichita Wild plays at Omaha tonight knowing it can position itself for a first-round home game by winning — or by losing by fewer than seven touchdowns.
A nice comfort zone.
The Wild (9-4) finish the regular season in a 7:05 p.m. kickoff against an Omaha team that may be the league's hottest right now. The Beef started the season 2-4 — including home and road losses to the Wild — but have since won six of their last seven games. Omaha has locked up a playoff berth but is also fighting for seeding.
The Wild has won four straight against Omaha, including this season's two victories. Avoiding a 49-point loss would have Wichita at home in the playoffs' first round against Bloomington. A 50-point loss would likely have them playing on the playoff road at Richmond, Va., or Rochester, N.Y.
A first-round home playoff game would be Saturday, June 26, at Hartman Arena with a 7:05 p.m. kickoff. Tickets go on sale Sunday morning at stage1tickets.com, then will be available at 10 a.m. Monday at Stage 1 ticket outlets and Hartman Arena.
Notes — Wild WR Clinton Solomon needs 83 receiving yards for 2,000 in his Wild career. He also has 49 career TD catches for the Wild.... It's a matchup of two of the league's best quarterbacks. The Wild's Dixie Wooten threw for a team-record 258 yards last week, while Omaha's Ben Sankey leads the league with 59 touchdown passes.
