Liberal defeats Newton to stay alive in NBC World Series
Liberal defeated Newton 7-2 in Wednesday’s late game in the NBC World Series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, keeping the Bee Jays alive for a spot in championship week.
Liberal plays the Colorado Cyclones at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner plays Saturday and the loser is eliminated.
Liberal’s Gavin Wehby doubled, drove in two runs and scored two while going 2 for 3 with a walk. Starter Luke Whitfield held Newton to one run over six innings and Lee Busto allowed one hit and one run in the final three innings.
