Dutch Lions defeat FC Wichita in semifinals
FC Wichita’s playoff run came to a jarring end Saturday, as Dutch Lions scored three goal in the first 28 minutes and never relented in a 5-0 win on Saturday afternoon in in Tulsa in the semifinals of the NPSL South Central playoffs.
FC Wichita entered the game with four consecutive shutouts, and hadn’t allowed a goal in 404 minutes. That changed quickly.
The Lions went ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute on a goal by Marshall Tucker. Carlos Acevedo added goals in the 20th and 28th minutes. The first came after a tangle in the box, and the second was a shot from 25 yards out that dipped under the crossbar.
FC Wichita defender Christian Aldama was shown a red card in the 38th minute for taking down a Dutch Lions attacker as the last man back. Jose Pablo Covarrubias converted the penalty kick, leaving Wichita down 4-0 and playing with 10 men.
The Dutch Lions added a goal in the 66th minute.
