PWBA Wichita Open set for Friday start at Northrock Lanes
The PWBA Wichita Open begins Friday at Northrock Lanes and ends later this month in Green Bay, Wis.
The women’s bowling tour is consolidating final rounds for multiple events for television purposes this season, and the remaining four players from this weekend will square off in Green Bay during the Players Championship in three weeks.
Stefanie Johnson, a 22-year-old from Grand Prairie, Texas, is the defending champion. She won the first event in Wichita since the PWBA was reintroduced – it was defunct from 2003 to 2015.
The 99-player field includes several current and former Wichita State athletes. Sydney Brummett and Hollyann Johansen recently helped the Shockers to a runner-up finish at the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Wichita. As student-athletes, they cannot accept prize money and maintain their eligibility.
Qualifying begins Friday morning, with the top 32 advancing to Saturday’s money round. The top two from qualifying along with the winners from separate six-player brackets will try for the championship in Green Bay in late June.
