High-scoring Wichita Wings off to unbeaten start to season, top indoor soccer standings

The Wichita Wings are holding steady their reputation as a high-scoring indoor soccer team and one of the best in Major Arena Soccer League 2.

The Wings are off to another hot start, improving to 6-0 in the 2023-24 season with a 7-2 win over El Paso Rhino FC at Hartman Arena this past Saturday.

Almost halfway through the league schedule, Wichita sits atop the Midwest standings with a perfect 5-0 record and stunning 30-goal differential.

Many of the same players from last season’s team are back, including Wichita products like David Lucio, Kevin Ten Eyck, Junior Quezada, Taylor Henry, Colin Lawter, Aaron Parrott, Taylor Parrott, Carlos Vidrio, Lalo Derath, Daniel Sack, Jason Dewey, Gabe Villegas, Philip Nguyen, Zak Ellington, Paul Gonzalez, Peter Espinosa, Matt Sherrod, Jose Ocampo, Tanner Prophet and Max Shea.

Ten Eyck is the team’s leading point-scorer with 11 assists and four goals on the season, while Lucio (seven goals) and Quezada (six goals) have been among the team’s leaders in finding the back of the net.

Lawter netted a brace in Wichita’s 7-2 win over El Paso, while Lucio scored another one of Wichita’s goals. But it was newcomer Mehrshad Ahmadi, who leads the team in goals this season with nine, who was the star with a hat trick against Rhino FC.

It was yet another dominant performance from the Wings, which led 6-0 entering the fourth quarter.

The closest game this season has been the conference-opener, an 8-5 win over the Amarillo Bombers on Dec. 22.

The Wings will return to action against the Bombers on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28, a pair of back-to-back games that will likely decide the Midwest Division champion. Wichita’s next home game at Hartman Arena is slated for Saturday, Feb. 3, against last-place New Mexico Runners.
