Wichita Barbarians win rugby national title

The Wichita Barbarians rugby club won the Division III national championship on Sunday with a 30-28 win over the Tri-City (Mich.) Barbarians in Glendale, Colo.

Down 28-27 with time winding down, Wichita stole the ball from Tri-City and ran several crashes into the middle of their defense before forcing Tri-City to commit a penalty as time expired. Wichita center Dustin Fross converted the penalty kick for three points and the national title.

It’s the first national title in Wichita history — the club was formed in 1973 — and follows Heart of American Union, Frontier Region and Western U.S. titles this season for Wichita.
