Nico Hernandez announces third pro fight
Nico Hernandez is coming back to Hartman Arena in a two-fight agreement announced by the Olympic bronze medalist and his promoter, KO Night Boxing, at Hartman Arena on Thursday.
Hernandez, undefeated at 2-0 with two knockouts, will fight professionally for the third time on Sept. 23 against Mexican flyweight Francisco Lapizco (8-5) in a six-round main event at 112 pounds. The fight will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
“Fighting in my hometown is always a good feeling,” Hernandez said. “Having my family there supporting me is a great feeling, walking down that aisle and hearing everybody cheering for me. It’s a great to have that kind of hometown support behind you.”
Hernandez said he does not know much about Lapizco or what his plan of attack will be yet.
Lapizco won his first seven professional fights, but has lost five of his past six coming into his bout with Hernandez. He has not been stopped in 13 fights. Meanwhile, Hernandez has stopped both of his opponents, Patrick Gutierrez and Jose Rodriguez, in the fourth round.
“I don’t know a lot about him, but it’s a step-up,” Hernandez said. “I’ve seen some fights of him online and he’s a good boxer. Right now the game plan is just to go in there and win the fight. I don’t want to lose in front of my hometown fans.”
