For Chiefs to make postseason, they need to extend their little-known NFL record

The Chiefs haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the race to win the AFC West, but their chances are slim.

Denver, 10-2, has a four-game lead on the third-place Chiefs, 6-6, so KC’s quest for a 10th straight division title is a long shot. The Chiefs have anywhere between a 27% chance and 37% chance of just making the playoffs.

The Chiefs are 10th in the AFC playoff field, and only seven teams make the postseason. If they are going to return to the playoffs for an 11th straight season, the Chiefs are likely going to have to extend their little-known NFL record.

NFL writer Scott Kacsmar shared this nugget on X: The Chiefs have had the most consecutive regular seasons with a winning streak of five games or more in the Super Bowl era. The Chiefs have done it in 12 straight seasons and barely have time to make it 13.

1. 2013-2024 Chiefs (12)

2t. 1989-1995 49ers (7)

2t. 2003-2009 Colts (7)

4t. 1970-1975 Dolphins (6)

4t. 2014-2019 Patriots (6)

6t. 1999-2003 Rams (5)

6t. 2006-2010 Giants (5)

If you didn’t know the Chiefs held that record, you’re not alone.

To continue that streak and their postseason run, the Chiefs likely will need to beat these five teams:

Sunday: vs. Houston Texans

Dec. 14: vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Dec. 21: at Tennessee Titans

Dec. 25: vs. Denver Broncos

Jan. 3/4: at Las Vegas Raiders
