Here’s the story behind why ‘EGE’ has become the Chiefs’ new rallying cry
Roughly an hour after the Chiefs’ 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to X with a short message.
#EGE
Within nine hours, that post had more than 12,000 likes and Chiefs fans loved the message.
“EVERYBODY GOTTA EAT,” one wrote in response.
“EGE” has become a new rallying cry for the Chiefs, especially among the wide receivers. They were shouting it out in the locker room following the win over the Lions.
“It’s just an ‘everybody eats’ offense,” wide receiver Xavier Worthy said following Sunday’s game. “Everybody’s gonna get their turn. My dog, Hollywood, two (touchdowns). It was a good night.”
That was in reference to Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who had two touchdown catches against the Lions.
“I don’t know where it originated from,” Worthy added, “but it is what it is. Everybody gotta eat.”
The Chiefs piled up 355 yards of offense and had 26 first downs against the Lions. Other than kneel downs to end both halves, the Chiefs scored on five of their seven possessions, including four touchdowns.
“We’re an explosive offense,” Worthy said. “We’ve got running backs, we’ve got receivers and just making plays. Everybody’s gonna do what they do, that’s where ‘everybody eats’ comes from.”
It was a good night for the receivers. Worthy had two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown, Brown four receptions for 45 yards and the two scores and JuJu Smith-Schuster caught three passes for 57 yards.
Leading the way was tight end Travis Kelce with six receptions for 78 yards. Yeah, everybody ate Sunday.
And the Chiefs will get another offensive weapon back this week, as wide receiver Rashee Rice’s six-game suspension is over. For the first time in two seasons, the Chiefs will have Rice, Brown and Worthy on the field at the same time.
That will be Sunday when the Chiefs play host to the Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
“We’re finally gonna see all the big three that you wanted to see,” Worthy noted.
Chiefs fans on social media have come to love the “EGE” rallying cry, and they are especially excited that Rice will need to eat, too, when he makes his 2025 season debut.
