Brazilian fans give KC Chiefs star Travis Kelce a nickname that’s cold as ice
Brazilian fans are so impressed by Travis Kelce, all 6-feet-5-inches and 200-some pounds of him, that they’ve given him a nickname in Portuguese that’s sort of been lost in translation.
It’s affectionate. Really. Brazilian fans have big love for the tight end, newly engaged to Taylor Swift.
An American Swiftie who also cheers for the Chiefs asked her Brazilian counterparts about it on social media Thursday.
“Brazilian Swifties, I have questions,” she wrote on X. “What does it mean when you refer to a man as a refrigerator? Just that he’s big, or what?
“I’ve seen Travis referred to as a ‘two-door refrigerator,’ a ‘four-door refrigerator,’ and a ‘refrigerator on the floor.’ What does this mean?”
And just like that we’re thinking about William Perry, aka “The Refrigerator.” The 335-pound Chicago Bears defensive tackle scored a touchdown during the Bears’ 46-10 rout of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX in 1986.
Remember The Super Bowl Shuffle?
But we digress.
Brazilian fans were happy to explain to the American Swiftie why they’re calling Kelce a refrigerator.
“The refrigerator thing means he’s big and manly.”
“Means he’s super hot, husband coded.”
“Is bc of the size, here it’s really big, pretty and expensive (a good definition for Travis).”
“It means he’s tall/big, physically talking, literally. And it’s a way of saying also that someone is tall and hot. Usually referred to man.”
“It’s because of the size of Travis, he is huuuuge like a two-door refrigerator.”
“We make this comparison because there are refrigerators in Brazil that are big and strong like Travis.”
“The expression two-door refrigerator comes from a place of ‘dream.’ because it’s a expensive appliance that only a few people here have it. So everything that you dream of is a two-door refrigerator.”
“It basically means he’s huge, but also good-looking and kind of ‘premium’ like a two-door fridge.”
“We call men like that when they are a big dream for us or when they are extremely beautiful.”
“The bro is the size of a refrigerator, nothing much but this.”
“Being a refrigerator isn’t just about height, it’s about being all big and burly! If it were tall and skinny, it would be at most a pole... But being a refrigerator isn’t about muscles either, it has to be something kind of bear-like, all proportionally big.”
To be clear, Kelce is in fact taller than the average refrigerator, which are usually between 5 feet and 6 feet tall. But he doesn’t come close to weighing as much as a standard model.
Our two cents? If Travis Kelce were a refrigerator he’d definitely be a chic, expensive Sub-Zero.
“And just for the record, we call him like that with love,” insisted one Brazilian fan on X.
