Games, trash talk and BBQ with Patrick Mahomes? Airbnb offering fun to lucky few

If Patrick Mahomes ever showed up at a field day at a local school, can you imagine the screams from the kids?

Well, who said field days are just for the littles?

Airbnb has partnered with the three-time Super Bowl winner to create a Sunday Funday, a day-long event with silly (and serious) team sports challenges and barbecue at the end — hosted by Mahomes himself.

This rare chance for fans to spend time with the star quarterback will take place Sunday, June 1, at an Airbnb in Kansas City described as an “incredible cabin overlooking a pond.”

It has a locker room, too.

A locator map on the Airbnb website shows it close to the Country Club Plaza.

“Today, we’re introducing completely reimagined Airbnb Experiences — hosted by the locals who know their city best,” the tech company said in an announcement.

“We’re launching experiences in 650 cities around the world, and adding more every day. In many cities, you’ll also find Airbnb Originals, in addition to Patrick Mahomes’ Sunday Funday — extraordinary experiences hosted by the world’s most interesting people, designed exclusively for Airbnb.”

On Tuesday, Airbnb revealed its revamped app now offering unique services and experiences (personal training, massages) like this one, a move to turn Airbnb into more than renting rooms and houses, co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky told The Hollywood Reporter.

Each experience is customized to the city or locale, such as touring galleries in New York or pastry classes in Paris, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“What if this time, instead of just getting like tour operators, we found some of the most interesting people in the world, from famous chefs, to sneaker designers, to musicians, to global celebrity icons?” Chesky told the entertainment publication.

“And what if we vetted all of them and made it easy to instantly book them. And what if these experiences became social, in the sense that you could see the other guests going, you could message them, you can keep in touch after, and what if everything was incredibly easy to book?”

Mahomes is in the first group of high-profile stars from sports, entertainment and music participating in celebrity-hosted events.

A day with Sabrina Carpenter and a day with Megan Thee Stallion are also offered.

“We’re bringing together all the best parts of a Sunday fun day — backyard games, authentic KC barbecue and a little friendly competition — all in great company,” Mahomes said in a press release.

His day will include:

  • A friendly round of beer pong to break the ice before the games begin.
  • Chipping golf balls into floating rings on the pond for team points.
  • Running tire drills, dribbling a soccer ball through cones and taking a soccer penalty shot.
  • Throwing footballs through various-sized hoops. (A no-look pass a la Mahomes doubles the points,)
  • A Jack Stack Barbecue spread and game of cornhole with Mahomes to end the day. (He promises every one will take home a plate of food.)

You can request to book (for free) until 5 a.m. May 19, according to the Airbnb website. Four guests and their plus ones will be selected to join Mahomes.

Guests must be 21 or older. For more information and to request to book go to airbnb.com.
