High school player shares details of being mentored by Travis Kelce at workout
Well what do you know?
A social-media brouhaha erupted last month following dubious reports about the Chiefs being upset with Travis Kelce’s offseason workouts.
Most level-headed Chiefs fans realize Kelce, who is returning for a 13th NFL season, has not been simply sitting at home with girlfriend Taylor Swift. He indeed has been working out, and we got confirmation of that, thanks to a couple high school football players from Georgia.
Chamblee High School quarterback Brayden Doss and wide receiver Jazz Lewis shared photos of working out with Kelce.
The workout sessions took place in the Boca Raton, Florida area, Lewis said in a message to The Star. Lewis, who is the son of former NFL running back Jamal Lewis, shared that Kelce has been training in the Sunshine State.
“He was working out with Tony Villani from XPE and Andrew Spruill from Johnny O’s gymnasium,” Lewis said of Kelce. “My dad used to work out with Tony Villani so he invites us to come and work out with his NFL guys.”
Lewis said the workout with Kelce lasted roughly an hour, and the four-time All-Pro took time to help the prep players improve their game.
“It was awesome to meet him knowing he is one of the best in the game,” Lewis said. “He gave me some tips on how to run smoother routes and be more sudden in my route running.”
Lewis and Doss are freshmen at Chamblee High.
