KC Chiefs’ Ryan Poles accepting Chicago Bears’ GM job, according to multiple reports
The Chiefs have a hole to fill in their personnel department.
Ryan Poles, the organization’s executive director of player personnel, is accepting the general manager position with the Chicago Bears, according to multiple reports.
The 36-year-old Poles emerged as a top GM candidate around the league over the past two years. He interviewed with the Carolina Panthers following the 2020 regular season, and the Bears were one of three franchises known to have interviewed Poles in recent weeks. The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants were the others.
Poles, a native of Canandaigua, New York, originally joined the Chiefs’ personnel department in 2009 as a scouting assistant.
He ascended to positions of greater responsibilities over the ensuing 13 years, including director of college scouting and assistant director of player personnel. The Chiefs promoted Poles to his current position last offseason.
While with the Chiefs, Poles learned the ins and outs of the scouting and personnel aspects of football under general managers Brett Veach (2017-present), John Dorsey (2013-17) and Scott Pioli (2009-12).
In Chicago, Poles returns to where his professional career began. The Bears signed Poles as an undrafted free-agent offensive lineman out of Boston College in 2008.
