Highest-rated TV market for ESPN’s Alex Smith documentary? Kansas City, of course

Why is it not surprising that the ESPN E60 documentary on Alex Smith had its highest national TV ratings in Kansas City?

The broadcast, which originally aired last Friday, drew a 2.1 rating in Kansas City. Tied for second were Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va., at 1.2.

The program depicted Smith’s comeback from a horrific leg injury suffered during his first season with Washington. Smith had spent the previous five seasons as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, taking Kansas City to the playoffs four times and posting a winning record in all five years he wore the uniform.

Smith had been the NFL’s overall top draft pick in 2005 and spent his first eight seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
