The Wichita Wind Surge is teaming up with League 42 for a special event to help grow the game of baseball in Wichita.

The pairing is in conjunction with Major League Baseball’s “PLAY BALL” initiative, which calls for professional teams to host events in their communities to celebrate the game and encourage kids to participate in baseball.

The League 42 game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at McAdams Park, 17th St. and Wabash, and is free and open to the public. Meals will be provided for more than 600 youth baseball players in attendance, while the Wind Surge will help provide in-game promotions, live music and giveaway items.

Bob Lutz, founder of League 42, was excited to partner with Wichita’s Double-A minor league baseball team.

“League 42 is a strong supporter of youth baseball, especially for kids who otherwise might not have an opportunity to participate,” Lutz said in a statement. “The PLAY BALL initiative is a great way to make the game of baseball more accessible to kids. We appreciate the Wind Surge’s strong and continued support of League 42.”
