Dillon Gee is the likely Royals’ starter Sunday
Dillon Gee is expected to be the Royals starting pitcher for Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners.
Royals manager Ned Yost said before Saturday’s game that Gee will get the ball if he isn’t pressed into service on Saturday.
Gee did not pitch on Saturday and will take the spot in the rotation that had been occupied by Chris Young, who surrendered six earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in his previous start, on July 5 at Toronto, to push his season ERA to 6.90.
Surrendering home runs has been Young’s biggest misfortune. He has yielded an AL-leading 26 home runs in 60 innings.
Gee, used mostly in long relief in his first season with the Royals, has made 17 appearances and four starts. He owns a 3-2 record and 4.05 ERA. He went 2-2 in his four starts in May when Young and Kris Medlen were on the disabled list.
