Royals legend George Brett to receive special honor at Louisville Slugger museum

Hall of Famer George Brett won nearly every award imaginable during and after his stellar 21-year career with the Royals.

Brett won the 1980 MVP award, was a three-time batting champion and won three Silver Slugger awards and a Gold Glove award. In his first year of eligibility, Brett was a landslide choice for the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 1999.

The accolades haven’t stopped for Brett, 72.

The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory on Thursday will present its Living Legend Award to Brett. The museum said that honor is given to “baseball greats who have made legendary contributions to the game and society, celebrating excellence, integrity, and impact.”

Brett’s famous “Pine Tar Game” bat will be on display at the museum through Dec. 5. It is on loan from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

“I’m incredibly honored to be named this year’s Living Legend,” Brett said in a news release. “Louisville Slugger bats were a part of my career from the very beginning, and it means a lot to be recognized by a place that’s so deeply tied to baseball’s history.”
