A Royals prospect crushed 501-foot home run, longer than any hit in MLB this year

Shawn Murnin is the broadcaster for the Royals’ Double-A team, and he didn’t wait long to make a call on an epic home run Tuesday night.

Northwest Arkansas outfielder Gavin Cross, who is the Royals’ No. 11 prospect according to Major League Baseball, crushed a pitch from Corpus Christi’s Anderson Bido.

Murnin’s call was succinct.

“Bye baseball,” Murnin said. “Yeah, that’s a no-doubt home run by definition. Gavin Cross absolutely tattoos one over the right-field wall.”

The Naturals shared video of the home run, and the ball easily cleared the bullpen at Arvest Ballpark. Northwest Arkansas later said the home run was estimated to have traveled 501 feet.

Cross was the Royals’ first-round pick in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft when he was selected ninth overall. After a slow start to the season, Cross is batting .308 with five doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs in 13 games in July.

The longest home run in the majors this season was a 484-foot shot by the Angels’ Mike Trout.
