Kansas City Royals vs. Guardians game postponed by weather. Here’s the makeup info

The Kansas City Royals will wait another day before renewing their American League Central rivalry against the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium.

The club announced that Friday’s series opener was postponed due to inclement weather. Heavy rains arrived around 5:10 p.m. Central and both teams were notified that the game will be rescheduled as a part of a split doubleheader on Saturday.

Game 1 will start at 1:40 p.m. Saturday. The second game is slated to follow at 6:15 p.m. Afterward there will be a postgame concert from award-winning recording artist Flo Rida.

Fans with tickets to Friday’s postponed game are not required to exchange tickets for Saturday’s rescheduled matchup. Those tickets will be honored if they elect to attend Game 1 at Kauffman Stadium.

Royals right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha was slated to pitch on Friday night. He was set to oppose Guardians veteran starter Gavin Williams.

KC has played in two previous doubleheaders this season. The Royals swept the Colorado Rockies on April 24 and later split with the St. Louis Cardinals on June 5.

This season, the Royals (50-53) have lost four of their six games against the Guardians. Both teams are battling for the final playoff spot in the American League wild-card race. Cleveland (51-51) is currently 1 and 1/2 games ahead of the Royals in the standings.

The Royals are beginning a six-game homestand against the Guardians and Atlanta Braves this weekend. KC dropped their previous encounter against Cleveland from April 11-13 at Progressive Field.
