Royals promote top prospect Jac Caglianone to Triple-A. Is MLB debut coming soon?
Kansas City Royals prospect Jac Caglianone is one step closer to the big leagues. On Sunday, the Royals promoted Caglianone to Triple-A Omaha.
Caglianone, 22, made his 2025 debut with the Royals’ Double-A affiliate, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. He dominated Texas League play with a .322 batting average, nine home runs and 43 RBIs in 38 games.
Those numbers slotted Caglianone first in RBIs and third in average and home runs in Texas League play. Additionally, Caglianone was fourth with a .947 OPS (on-base plus slugging) in 152 at-bats with the Naturals.
The Royals have remained patient with Caglianone. The club selected him sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and brought him along slowly.
He participated in the Arizona Fall League and was in big-league camp this spring. Double-A was his first stop this season, and he will try his hand against Triple-A pitching.
“We like what he’s doing. We’re happy with what he’s doing,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said earlier this month. “We’re trying to allow him to develop properly as a hitter, and when this offense settles in, that might be a proper time for him to come up.”
There is a lot to like about Caglianone’s development. He walked 19 times to offset 37 strikeouts with the Naturals. There were in-game adjustments against different pitchers and he showed a willingness to play multiple positions.
The Royals put Caglianone in right field and he will continue to learn the outfield. It’s not a new position given he last played there in high school. However, his power is what makes his Triple-A promotion appealing.
KC is struggling to find offensive consistency. Caglianone getting promoted to Triple-A Omaha is a strong indication he could be ready for the majors in short order.
If he can continue to hit at the highest minor-league level, the Royals could potentially add him to the major league roster before the end of the season.
For now, Caglianone has a new challenge. And he is just a few miles away from making Kauffman Stadium his home in the near future.
