Touted Royals prospect Jac Caglianone adds towering home run to spring highlight reel

It’s getting quite hard to ignore Jac Caglianone this spring.

The top Kansas City Royals prospect continues to make a resounding opening impression in his first big-league camp at Surprise, Arizona.

On Sunday, Caglianone blasted a 444-foot home run during a Cactus League spring training game against the Milwaukee Brewers. He sent an 86 mph cutter over the right-field wall off Brewers veteran starting pitcher Aaron Civale.

Caglianone battled Civale for eight pitches. He chased a curveball to begin the at-bat and then watched a cutter to fall further behind in the count.

Then he fouled off two pitches before working the count full. Civale challenged him with one last cutter, but it was left hanging over the plate.

And that ball departed Surprise Stadium in a hurry.

The homer registered a 114.6 mph exit velocity, producing a booming sound that reverberated throughout the venue.

“That sounded good,” Royals broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre said on the FanDuel Sports Network Kansas City broadcast.

It was Caglianone’s third home run of the spring.

He also doubled off the center-field wall in the fifth inning and this spring owns a .545 batting average (6-for-11) and 1.455 slugging percentage.

“He is physically imposing, like we have talked about a lot,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said.

The Royals invited Caglianone to his first major-league camp this offseason. It was a significant honor for the 22-year-old from Tampa, who was selected sixth overall by the Royals in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Caglianone ranks No. 22 among the top 100 MLB prospects. He has garnered rave reviews this spring and could wind up in Kansas City in the near future.

“He’s a great teammate, easy to talk to, and really it’s just a matter of how quickly his bat can get to the big leagues,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said on Sunday’s broadcast.

“It’s not that we want to rush him, but we know he is not too far away.”
