Royals All-Star Alex Gordon leaves game with left groin strain
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon left the Kansas City Royals’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays after taking an awkward step while tracking down a fly ball at the wall. The club later announced he suffered a left groin strain.
Gordon was racing back on Logan Forsythe’s shot in the fourth inning Wednesday night when his left knee twisted gruesomely near the warning track. The left fielder collapsed to the ground and lay there as Forsythe rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
Gordon remained on the field as trainer Nick Kenney and manager Ned Yost jogged out from the dugout. He eventually was lifted into a cart and driven off the field, his head covered in a towel.
Gordon was voted to his third straight All-Star game over the weekend. He was supposed to start for Yost in Cincinnati.
