Forecast forces Royals to change time of Sunday’s season finale at Kauffman Stadium

The final game of franchise cornerstone left fielder Alex Gordon’s career with the Kansas City Royals will come even quicker than originally scheduled.

The Royals announced that Sunday’s season finale against the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium has been moved from its previously scheduled start time of 2:05 p.m. up to 12:05 p.m. (CT) due to concerns about heavy rain in the forecast.

Gordon, who announced his retirement on Thursday, will conclude a 14-year major-league career spent entirely with the Royals. His accomplishments include seven Gold Glove awards, three All-Star selections, one Platinum Glove award and being a member of the 2015 World Series championship club.

Royals rookie right-hander Brady Singer (3-4, 4.14) is scheduled to pitch Sunday’s finale, while left-hander Tarik Skubal (1-3, 6.17) will start for the Tigers.

Fox Sports Kansas City’s television broadcast will begin with pre-game coverage starting at 11:30 a.m.

The Royals (25-33) entered Saturday evening’s game having won three consecutive games and four of their last five.
