The Kansas boys and girls bowling championships in Class 6A took place Friday in Wichita.
The Derby boys (3,763 pins) had an impressive team performance, taking first by 253 pins over Shawnee Mission East (second, 3,510), Olathe Northwest (third, 3,441) and Olathe South (fourth, 3,415), all of which finished within 95 pins of each other.
Washburn Rural rounded out the top 5.
The top-2 on the girls 6A side came from Wichita, with Campus taking first and Wichita Northwest finishing second. Gardner Edgerton’s Myranda Rogers took the individual 6A title, just eclipsing Mill Valley’s Layla Gonzalez by 10 pins (696-686).
The lone KC-area finisher in the top 5 for the boys was Christian Lahey of Shawnee Mission East, who finished second (728). Derby’s Dawson Baumgartner (741) took the individual championship in Class 6A.
