Wichita West football to forfeit two wins
The West football team will forfeit its two wins because an ineligible student participated in the team’s first five games.
“It’s a clerical error that we missed,” West athletic director Phil Daignault said. “This student has been with us for a long time. I really can’t expand on it.
“It’s just a clerical error, an accident, an oversight. Nothing intentional. You have to deal with a lot of kids and have to make sure that they’re eligible. This is an accident, something that we were supposed to have caught.”
West, which was 2-4 and will forfeit its wins over North and East, self-reported its infraction to the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
According to a statement from City League athletic director J Means, West football will “complete the remainder of its varsity season as scheduled without further penalty from KSHSAA.”
