LAUREN BUCHANAN

Senior catcher

Carroll

Buchanan, a three-time All-Metro selection who has signed with Colorado State, was a four-year starter. She had a .593 batting average, eight home runs, 58 RBIs and 46 extra-base hits. In her career at Carroll, she is 96-4, going 50-0 the past two seasons.

BROOKE EBERHARDT

Senior first baseman

Augusta

Eberhardt, an All-Metro selection as a sophomore at pitcher, is a steady presence at first and dangerous offensively. She had a .624 batting average to lead Augusta (21-4) to two straight Class 4A-Division I titles. She had 46 RBIs, five home runs and had a .925 slugging percentage. She hit a home run in Augusta’s quarterfinal win over Topeka Hayden.

BRITTANY FINNEY

Senior pitcher

Carroll

Finney, a three-time All-Metro selection who signed with Oklahoma and was named the Kansas Gatorade player of the year, threw all three Class 5A tourney games as Carroll (25-0) won its fifth straight title. She had 16 homers, 54 RBIs and had a .677 batting average. Finney owns state records in career home runs (38) and RBIs (140). She had a 0.40 ERA and struck out 112 in 70 innings.

KYLIE FOX

Senior designated hitter

Southeast

Fox, a two-time All-Metro selection, was a force at the plate with a .651 batting average, a .937 slugging percentage, 20 extra-base hits and 23 RBIs. She led Southeast to a 12-9 season, including its best season in City League play since going 8-8 in 2002. She also played wherever Southeast needed her, including pitcher, catcher and second base. She had two errors and a .974 fielding percentage.

BRIANA HOGAN

Junior outfielder

Carroll

Hogan helped lead Carroll to its second straight 25-0 season while playing right field. She had a .529 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.129, hit 10 homers and had 47 RBIs. She did not have any errors and, on a hit to right, was a threat to throw the runner out at first.

ALEX JENNINGS

Senior pitcher

Northwest

Jennings led Northwest (19-5) into the Class 6A tournament, where the Grizzlies finished tied for third. In Northwest’s 6A quarterfinal win, she threw all eight innings, struck out five, was 4 for 5 hitting and had the game-winning RBI. She was 13-5 and struck out 88 in 78 2/3 innings, and she also had a .493 batting average with 28 RBIs, 35 runs and 16 extra-base hits.

ALLIE JURGENSEN

Junior third baseman

Maize

Jurgensen led Maize to a 16-6 season and a Class 6A regional title game. She utilized her quickness to make the tough plays at third base and had a .934 fielding percentage. She had a .529 batting average, hitting 14 doubles and six home runs with 34 RBIs and 31 runs. She struck out four times.

BRYNN MINOR

Senior utility

Eisenhower

Minor split her time between pitcher, where she had a 2.72 ERA, and shortstop. She had a strong throwing arm and was able to stymie batters. Defensively, her consistency to make all the necessary plays was a huge advantage for the Tigers. She also had a .613 batting average and hit four home runs and 24 RBIs.

JULISA ORTEGA

Junior pitcher

Goddard

Ortega helped lead Goddard to a 19-3 season and a combined four losses over the past two seasons. A consistent pitcher, she was 12-3 with a 0.88 ERA with two no-hitters and 106 strikeouts in 91 innings. She also hit .421 and had 27 RBIs.

CARLEY PHILLIPS

Junior outfielder

Augusta

Phillips, a center fielder, helped lead Augusta (21-4) to two straight 4A-Division I titles. A two-year starter, she batted leadoff and had a .522 batting average with four homers, 18 extra-base hits and 19 RBIs. She hit a home run in Augusta’s quarterfinal win over Topeka Hayden.

MIRANDA ROHLEDER

Junior middle infielder

Goddard

Rohleder, a two-time All-Metro selection, was the leader of a strong Lions (19-3) defense at shortstop. She made the routine and the outstanding plays. Her quickness was on display defensively and offensively. She entered the 5A tournament with 41 runs scored, 36 RBIs, six home runs, seven triples and four doubles with a .534 batting average.

BECCA SCHULTE

Senior middle infielder

Andover Central

Schulte, who missed parts of her freshman and junior seasons due to illness, shined this season. She had a .973 fielding percentage at shortstop and was a force at the plate. She hit .603, had 25 runs, six doubles, four homers and a slugging percentage of 1.073. She signed to play at Butler.

KENZIE YOUNG

Junior outfielder

Derby

Young is a two-time All-Metro selection and was an All-Metro volleyball selection in the fall. She led Derby to the Class 6A tournament while hitting .600 in the postseason. She covered a lot of ground in the outfield because of her quickness in center and didn’t have an error. She also had a .413 batting average, 27 runs, 19 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

STEVE HARSHBERGER

Coach

Carroll

In his second season, Harshberger is still unbeaten. The Eagles are 50-0 under Harshberger and have won five straight Class 5A titles overall. Outside of a 2-1 regional championship win over Andover Central, Carroll dominated this season with 356 runs, 321 RBIs and 44 home runs. Carroll gave up 15 runs.

This is the 11th year for All-Metro teams selected by The Eagle, recognizing the best high school athletes in team sports throughout Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties.

Nomination ballots were sent to softball coaches at high schools in those counties. Coaches were asked to return ballots with nominations of the best players within those counties that they saw this season, including their own players.

The team was selected by Joanna Chadwick after tabulating nominations, her own evaluation of the players and additional input from coaches.
