Sam Bachrodt, Kapaun
Bachrodt, a 5-10 senior and two-time All-Metro selection, led Kapaun (20-5) to third in Class 5A, scoring 78 points in the tourney, including the game-winning basket in overtime of her final game. She averaged 19.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals and scored 1,400 career points. She signed with Drake.
Kendrian Elliott, Wichita South
Elliott, a 6-2 junior and three-time All-Metro selection, helped lead South (23-2) to its third straight 6A title. She consistently drew double and triple teams from opposing defenses, yet averaged a team-high 13.3 points, 12 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. Elliott has made a non-binding commitment to Kansas State.
Daley Handy, Maize
Handy, a 6-foot senior, helped lead Maize (24-1) to the 6A title game for the second straight season. She averaged 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3 steals and shot 39 percent from three-point range. A physical player with ballhandling skills, she went inside for tough points and rebounds or shot from three-point range. She has signed with Wyoming.
Ericka Mattingly, Wichita South
Mattingly, a 5-8 junior, controlled the Titans’ offense as it went 23-2 and won its third straight 6A title with her at point. A quick, intelligent guard, she wreaked havoc on defense and on opposing defenses. She averaged 9.5 points, 4 steals, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. She has made a non-binding commitment to play at Wichita State.
Keiryn Swenson, Maize
Swenson, a 6-2 senior and two-time All-Metro selection, averaged 14.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks as she led Maize (24-1) to the Class 6A title game for the second straight season. She had an instinct for getting rebounds and a soft touch on her shot. She has signed with Arkansas to play basketball and throw javelin.
Coach Antwain Scales, Wichita South
Scales, a three-time All-Metro coach of the year, led his team to the Class 6A title for the third straight season, the first 6A girls team to do so. The Titans are 71-4 in the past three seasons and 85-13 overall. In the three seasons before Scales took over, the Titans were 18-45.
