Carroll basketball coach Gary Cundiff suspended

Bishop Carroll boys basketball coach Gary Cundiff has been suspended from his coaching duties pending the outcome of his criminal case, the Catholic Diocese of Wichita confirmed Monday.

Cundiff is charged with felony theft and falsifying company financial statements for allegedly taking more than $26,000 from Wave Array Science, a company registered under Cundiff’s home address. His next court appearance is Thursday. Cundiff has not hired a lawyer, according to court records.

Cundiff is suspended from all team activities, including practices, which began Monday. Assistant coach Mike Domnick will serve as the interim coach. Carroll opens its season Dec. 2 at home against North.

Messages left for Carroll administration and Cundiff were not immediately returned. Carroll president Tish Nielsen said in August that Cundiff, a former Wichita State player who was previously a Carroll girls assistant for four years, remained the coach while Carroll gathered facts about the case. She would not comment further.
