Here is when England and Argentina World Cup teams will be leaving Kansas City
It may seem strange to quote from “Romeo and Juliet” when talking about the World Cup, but for Kansas City, “parting is such sweet sorrow.”
Two of the four teams that made a base camp in Kansas City advanced to the semifinals, where they will play each other Wednesday in Atlanta for the right to make the 2026 World Cup final.
The winning team will play the title game Sunday against either France or Spain at New York New Jersey Stadium (aka MetLife Stadium), and should it win, Argentina is expected to travel to the East Coast after the final whistle (or penalty kicks) Wednesday.
The losing team will head to Miami for Saturday’s third-place match against the loser of the Spain-France game.
Chiefs fans know all about Super Bowl week, when the players travel the Sunday before the big game. Once on site, the players practice and talk to the media for multiple days. It’s sort of the same for the World Cup championship match, as FIFA will require the teams to be ready for a media onslaught. That begins Friday.
England’s media center at the KC Parks and Recreation Department was open one last time Monday, and then the team’s logos will be removed, along with FIFA signage. Team England will have a training session Tuesday morning at Swope Soccer Village before heading to Atlanta. England will return to KC briefly after Wednesday’s match to prepare for either the final or the third-place game.
Argentina is scheduled to practice at Compass Minerals National Performance Center on Monday.
The Argentina embassy in the United States shared a social media post thanking Kansas City
“As Argentina’s unforgettable journey in Missouri comes to an end, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Governor Mike Kehoe for his warm hospitality and steadfast support throughout our stay,” the embassy wrote.
“Thanks to the incredible passion of thousands of Argentine fans, our National Team truly felt at home at Kansas City Stadium, an experience we will always remember.
The Embassy also hopes to continue economic opportunities with the state of Missouri.
Argentina also likely will leave Monday for Atlanta. In previous matches, the team has arrived in the city where it will be two days early.
