Dad’s quest for giant FIFA soccer ball goes viral. Here’s how to get one & cost
It wasn’t exactly a Tolkien quest of the ring.
But content creator Alyssa Cronin’s video showing her dad’s obsession with buying a giant FIFA soccer ball displayed at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store put millions of people on the edge of their seat this week.
Would the store sell him the display-only ball?
More importantly, how much did that thing cost?
Cronin and her dad are known on TikTok as Alyssa & Kickball Dad. Their viral, humorous videos about his adventures in life and their father-daughter moments are followed by more than 3 million people.
She’s a social media manager who has worked with big brands like Adidas, ESPN — and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Her dad became obsessed with a jumbo-sized Adidas FIFA World Cup 2026 Trionda Pro Official Match Soccer Ball displayed at a Dick’s.
But twice when he asked if he could buy it he was rebuffed, told by different employees the ball was for display and not for sale.
Third time proved the charm when an employee asked his manager and the answer was yes, Dad could buy the ball.
And after a slight struggle to free the giant orb from its display, Dad walked out of the store holding the ball over his head like it was the World Cup trophy itself.
Next came the unexpected struggle to shove it into the backseat of his car.
“What if we told you there’s an even bigger ball,” the official Instagram account for World Cup in Kansas City teased Kickball Dad.
“I’m listening,” he replied.
(We’re waiting, too.)
“My dad also got one,” another commenter wrote. “He inflated it in my nieces nursery and now it’s stuck in there because it doesn’t fit through the doorway.”
“Wonder if they offered a Protection Plan on that ball,” someone else wondered, while another begged to know this:
“How much did he pay, I REALLY wanna know.”
That giant ball costs $320 on the Dick’s Sporting Goods website.
“With a diameter of 31.5 inches, (80cm), it’s much larger than a standard match ball and makes a big statement,” the description reads.
It’s hand-stitched and has low rebound for better ball control because heaven forbid that giant ball rolls into the street.
A pop-up warning on the website Thursday warned that the ball was “going fast” and that 128 shoppers had placed it in their online shopping cart.
We didn’t call every Dick’s Sporting Goods in Kansas City, but did find that one is displayed at the store in Olathe and is available for purchase, for $320.
On Thursday, Cronin posted a follow-up video showing her dad kicking the ball around with a neighbor after they topped it off with air.
“Kickball Dad brought his jumbo World Cup ball to the neighbors’ house for a tune-up before the tournament kicks off,” she wrote.
That thing can fly.
