Tickets for Saturday’s game at SIU Arena going fast
SIU Arena was once the most feared stop in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Salukis won 42 consecutive MVC home games from 2001-2006. They won 33 (2003-06) and 31 straight (2001-03) conference and non-conference during that time.
As SIU slipped, so did attendance, from a peak of 7,743 in 2006-07 to 3,299 in 2011-12.
Prompted by a 14-2 record, star guard Anthony Beane and an attractive opponents, fans are coming back. A win over Northern Iowa drew a season-high crowd of 6,106 on Saturday.
Saturday’s game against Wichita State is on its way to a sellout, according to Todd Hefferman of The Southern Illinoisan.
An SIU spokesman tells me there are about 1,000 tickets left for SIU's mbb game against Wichita State Sat. at 3pm. Sales at 7,000-plus.
