Wichita State quickly tired of Cinderella talk in 2013 on its way to the Final Four.

Coach Gregg Marshall pointed out Cinderella’s run at the ball ended at midnight. The Shockers won four games and Marshall considered that proof his team was no fairy tale. Gov. Sam Brownback called the Shockers “Godzilla, not Cinderella.”

“I answered this on the podium (in Los Angeles), but Cinderella didn’t find four glass slippers, she found one,” Marshall said. “Cinderella usually wins one or two games, Cinderella doesn’t get to the point where you’re good enough to win it all. There’s no longer a Cinderella factor.”

Sports Illustrated still found it appropriate to include the 2013 Shockers in its NCAA Tournament Cinderella bracket, and nobody should mind too much. WSU knocked off 1998 Valparaiso (see ya’ Bryce Drew), 2011 Butler (Matt Howard, denied) and 2008 Davidson (no soup for Steph Curry) to reach the final.

The Shockers are matched with 2013 Florida Gulf Coast, the Dunk City bunch that beat Georgetown and San Diego State.
