Most of the former Shockers playing in the summer are in Las Vegas now, trying to make a good impression on current teams or positioning themselves for a better gig overseas. Summer League is a lot like minor-league baseball — most athletes are on the roster to pass the ball to the top prospects. It can be the starting point for bigger things and there are surprising success stories that come out of the summer leagues, but they’re in the minority.
We know Cleanthony Early will be with the Knicks this season. Toure Murry established a track record that indicates he is on the list when teams need a defensive-minded guard. Tekele Cotton, Darius Carter and Nick Wiggins are trying to do enough to make an NBA team think they can help. It’s a long shot, but they are in front of the right people this month.
