Houston North Shore guard Kerwin Roach will choose from three schools on his birthday (Oct. 24) - Texas, California and Wichita State.
He visited WSU earlier this month, eating at Chester’s Chophouse, playing pickup basketball with the Shockers and watching the guards work out with coaches. He watched the Floyd Mayweather fight at Fred VanVleet’s apartment.
“The workout was great, the stuff they’re working on is like ‘Will it help you go to the NBA?’” type workouts,” he said. “The intensity, how hard they go. There’s a tone - go hard.”
Roach liked the workouts so much he took some of the drills home, including one where the Shockers dribble low, with their off hand, through cones, stopping and starting with the ball.

Roach has eliminated schools such as Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Kansas State this fall. Wichita State remains one of his choices. He started the summer not ranked nationally before ascending to No. 34 on the Rivals.com top 150 nationally (similar to VanVleet’s rise in stature after he committed to WSU). Roach is No. 99 on ESPN.com’s top 100.
“My relationship with coach GH (assistant Greg Heiar) is outstanding,” Roach said. “And I really have a good connection with Fred, because we basically have the same background story, coming out of high school. I really liked the school and the campus.”
