WSU volleyball battles back, beats Creighton for first win of the season

Wichita State’s volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win over No. 18 Creighton on Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa, at the Iowa State Challenge.

Creighton took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the first two games 25-21, 25-21. WSU won the last three games 25-23, 25-23, 15-7.

The Shckers built a nine-point lead midway through the third game, then held on for a 25-23 win. Creighton led the fourth game 20-17 but couldn’t close out WSU, as Kenzie Crawford and Jess Bird each had service aces while WSU battled back. The Shockers took control early in the final game and pulled away, with seven players getting kills.

WSU senior Jody Larson finished with 19 kills, 18 digs and four blocks, while Mikaela Raudsepp added 14 kills and Abbie Lehman had 10 kills and six blocks. WSU had eight aces.

The Shockers were swept by Iowa State on Friday evening in the season’s first match, then dropped their first two games Saturday before coming back to win.
