Former Shocker Kellyn Taylor fourth in women’s 10,000 at Olympic Trials

Two former Wichita State women’s track All-Americans finished among the top runners in the women’s 10,000 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

Kellyn Taylor finished fourth and Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton finished eighth in the field of 24 runners. The top two runners qualified for the Olympics.

Taylor and Tuliamuk-Bolton were part of a six-runner group that separated itself from the pack during the middle of the race, and Tuliamuk-Bolton was second with 2,000 meters left before fading.

Molly Huddle led pretty much the entire way. The 31-year-old Huddle used a powerful final lap to hold off Emily Infeld. Huddle finished in 31 minutes, 41.62 seconds. Taylor finished in 32:11.29 and Tuliamuk-Bolton ran 32:32.32.

▪ Wichita native Austin Bahner was 11th after the first day of the decathlon. His day included a personal best shot put of 45 feet, 5 3/4 inches. He finished the day with 4,039 points. Reigning Olympic champion Ashton Eaton was first with 4,561 points. The decathlon concludes Sunday.

▪ Current Shocker Damien Odle threw the javelin 234-4 on his final attempt in qualifying, good enough for 10th place and a spot in Monday’s finals. Odle, from Greensburg, had a 240-8 throw this spring during the WSU season.
