Wichita State men’s tennis coach Brad Louderback ends tenure with resignation
Wichita State men’s tennis coach Brad Louderback resigned on Friday, according to the athletic department, ending a suspension that began on May 4.
Louderback did not return a request for comment. He did not coach the Shockers in their NCAA regional last month after WSU suspended him during an “internal review into team operations.” WSU said the review was not related to NCAA violations.
Louderback came to WSU in 2007 and won the MVC tournament in 2010, 2013 and 2016, qualifying for NCAA play each time. The Shockers also won their first MVC regular-season title since 1997 this spring.
“We’re grateful to Coach Louderback for the success of the program under his leadership,” interim athletic director Darron Boatright said in a news release.
Louderback, 58, did not travel to road matches this season due to health issues. WSU played eight road matches, all without Louderback, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December and underwent surgery on Jan. 20. Two weeks later, he developed a hernia.
Louderback is a native of Arkansas City and coached at Illinois, Oklahoma State and Cowley College before coming to WSU. Jay Louderback, his brother, coached WSU’s women’s team for seven seasons and played for the Shockers. Jay Louderback has coached women’s tennis at Notre Dame since 1989. Jan Louderback, their sister, also played for WSU.
