Wichita State qualifies jumper, two throwers for NCAA track and field meet

Wichita State will send three athletes to the NCAA Championships after no Shockers qualified Saturday in the NCAA West Prelimary track and field meet in Lawrence.

Wichita State's Ashley Petersen, Damien Odle and Skylar Arneson qualified on Friday. They will travel to Eugene, Ore., for the national meet from June 8-11.

Petersen finished fourth in the high jump with a personal-best height of 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches to return to the national meet for a second time. In 2014, she qualified with a height of 509 3/4. She failed to clear the opening height of 5 7 3/4 in the national meet.

Odle finished fourth with a throw of 233-11 in the javelin. Arneson placed ninth in the hammer with a throw of 207-7.
