Wichita State qualifies record 25 athletes for NCAA preliminary track meet

Wichita State will send 25 athletes, a school record, to the NCAA West Track and Field Preliminaries next week in Lawrence.

Freshman Jared Belardo qualified in the triple jump and long jump. He ranks sixth in the triple jump at 52 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

Carlea Holt, from Cheney, is the top-ranked athlete for WSU’s women’s qualifiers. She is No. 15 with a javelin throw of 164-11.

For the WSU men, Weston Cottrell (hammer) and Damien Odle (javelin) also rank in the top 10. Cottrell is No. 8 at 213-10. Odle is No. 10 with a throw of 240-8.

Also competing for the men: Dylan Reimer (javelin), Hunter Veith (long jump), Skylar Arneson (hammer), Shazz Michael Lindo (triple jump), Taylor Goldsmith (hammer), Chase Pote (javelin), Austin Corley (400-meter hurdles), Ugis Jocis (1,500 meters), Tucker Davis (200), Jacob James (110 hurdles), Garret Lynch (high jump), Brady Johnson (10,000).

For women: Taylor Larch-Miller (100 hurdles), Jamesia Milton (hammer), Sidney Hirsch (steeplechase), Rebekah Topham (steeplechase), Ashley Petersen (high jump), Sadie Suenram (discus), Kayla Deighan (steeplechase), Breanne Borman (javelin), Taylor Swanson (pole vault).

The meet takes place May 26-28.
