A three-run home run by Liz Broyles lifted Wichita State into first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 7-4 win at Drake on Sunday.
WSU’s win, combined with Northern Iowa’s 9-8 loss to Missouri State, pushed the Shockers past Drake (24-21, 12-7) and UNI.
Broyles homered in the seventh to give WSU (28-18, 14-5 MVC) a sweep of Drake, which entered the weekend in first place. Northern Iowa (34-14, 13-6) dropped a game behind the Shockers after starting Sunday tied for first.
WSU reliever Jenni Brooks held Drake scoreless for 4 2/3 innings. WSU took a 4-2 lead in the third inning, scoring one run on a passed ball and one when Cacy Williams stole home.
The Shockers, who have won seven straight MVC games, play Missouri State at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkins Stadium.
