Wichita State is the No. 1 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s tournaments, both which begin Friday at the Coleman Tennis Complex.
The WSU women (24-3, 7-0 MVC) won their eighth consecutive MVC regular-season title on Saturday with wins over Evansville and Southern Illinois. WSU opens the women’s tournament against eighth-seeded Evansville at 9 a.m. Friday.
The WSU men (15-10, 2-1) won their first MVC title since 1998 on Saturday when Drake lost two matches. The Shockers finished their regular season a week ago with wins over Illinois State and Southern Illinois
The men earned a first-round bye and will play at 10 a.m.. Saturday. The Shockers will play either the No. 2 or the No. 3 seed from the America East Conference, which combines with the MVC for men’s tennis because both conferences lack the required number of teams for an NCAA automatic bid.
Championship matches for both tournaments are Sunday, men at 10 a.m. and the women at 1 p.m.
