Wichita State softball sweeps Missouri State, scores 17 runs in first game

Wichita State's Macklin Hitz homered twice and drove in seven runs, setting a school record with 19 bases, in a 17-6 win over Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.

The Shockers (25-18, 11-5 MVC) swept the doubleheader with a 3-2 win in the nightcap. WSU’s fourth straight victory pulled it into a second-place tie in the MVC with Northern Iowa. Both are one game behind Drake.

WSU totaled 21 hits in the first game with Paige Luellen also homering twice. Hitz doubled twice and singled. Mackenzie Wright and Mauriana Jamele also homered.

In the second game, Katie Malone held the Bears (16-25, 5-10) to seven hits. Cacy Williams hit two solo home runs for the Shockers.
