Evansville routs Wichita State in series finale
Wichita State hit aother bump in the road on Sunday.
The Shockers, who are 2-12 on the road, were run-ruled by Evansville 11-1, allowing the Aces to take the three-game series 2-1 in Evansville, Ind.
Evansville (17-13, 2-1 MVC) hit the Shockers with a five-run third, needing just two hits in the inning. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch helped Evansville to break a 0-0 standoff.
The game ended with WSU reliever Tyler Jones threw a wild pitch, enabling Boomer Synek to dash home with the game-ender.
WSU (11-21, 1-2) scored in the sixth when Greyson Jenista led off with a double and scored on Gunnar Troutwine’s single.
The Shockers missed a good opportunity to score in the fourth. Jenista walked leading off. After an out, Ryan Tinkham walked to put runners at first and second. Tinkham was picked up first by Synek, the Evansville catcher.
Notes — Jenista went 3 for 7 (.429) in the series. Dayton Dugas and Troutwine were 3 for 9 (.333). Mikel Mucha and Tanner Kirk were 2 for 11 (.182), Tinkham went 0 for 9, Chase Rader was 2 for 9 (.222) and Trey Vickers was 2 for 10 (.200). Tinkham has one hit in his last 15 at-bats (.067). . . .
