Wichita State junior Ron Baker is one of 25 athletes on the midseason list for the Wooden Award, an honor given to college basketball’s national Player of the Year.

Baker, a guard from Scott City, averages 16.5 points and 4.4 rebounds for the 13th-ranked Shockers. He is shooting 38.6 percent from three-point range.

The top 25 also includes Kentucky’s Willie Cauley-Stein, Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, Frank Kaminsky of Wisconsin, Duke’s Jahlil Okafor and Kevin Pangos from Gonzaga.

WSU junior Fred VanVleet and Kansas players Perry Ellis, Cliff Alexander, Wayne Selden and Kelly Oubre, all members of the award’s preseason watch list, are not included on the midseason list. They can be added later in the season. Baker was also a member of the preseason list.

A panel of around 1,000 voters selects the honoree. Creighton’s Doug McDermott won the award last season.
