Wichita State senior center Anton Grady was named captain of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Bench team on Wednesday.

Grady, who is playing his only season for WSU after transferring from Cleveland State, is averaging 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 17 minutes. He missed three weeks of the season with a spinal concussion after starting the Shockers’ first five games.

Grady is joined on the All-Bench team by freshman teammate Markis McDuffie, who was named Freshman of the Year on Tuesday.

Joining the two Shockers on the bench team are Illinois State junior Nick Banyard, Evansville junior Mislaw Brzoja, Northern Iowa sophomore Klint Carson, and Southern Illinois junior Leo Vincent.

No Shockers were named to the MVC Most Improved team. MiKyle McIntosh of Illinois State, a sophomore, was named captain and was joined by Evansville junior Jaylon Brown, Missouri State sophomore Chris Kendrix, Northern Iowa sophomore Bennett Koch, SIU junior Bola Olaniyan and Bradley sophomore Donte Thomas.

WSU begins the MVC tournament at noon Friday in St. Louis against the winner of Thursday’s Bradley-Loyola game.
